This is the last part of an Ode of the Canon. The first part is the Irmos, then each troparia, then the final Katabasia.

This is the Heirmos from the 9th Ode of the 2nd Canon of the Nativity of Christ, sung from December 26th - 30th, "Verily, it is easier for us to endure silence . . . ."  When sung as Heirmos, we us the magnificat "Today the Virgin giveth birth . . . ."  When sung as Katabasia, we use the magnificat "Magnify, O my soul, her who hath delivered us from the curse."  Updated 8/22/18.

These Katabasiae are from the 2nd Canon of the Nativity of Christ and are sung from December 26th - 30th.  "The Lord performed a miracle . . . ."

This double Canon of the Nativity of Christ has both sets of Katabasiae from the 1st and 2nd Canon (Odes 1-8), which are sung on the Feast of Christmas itself, December 25th, and on its Leave-taking, December 31st. "Christ is born, glorify Him . . . The Lord performed a miracle . . . ." Updated 12/3/17.

Elevation (Exaltation) of the Cross, Katabasiae (Odes 1-9)

These Katabasiae (Odes 1-9) are sung in Orthros (Matins) on August 1, August 6-13 and August 24-September 21.  They can also be sung at the Sacrament of Baptism, while the baby or child is being clothed.  They are sung in a special Tone 8, similar to the Canon of the Paraklesis.  UPDATED AND CORRECTED, 8/29/13
