2015 Creative Arts Festival Lesson Cross-Reference

Kindergarten - Together with God

Lesson 2 “God’s House” Make the connection that St. Raphael is known for establishing the first churches in our Archdiocese.

Lesson 4 “Icons” Show the children an icon of St. Raphael and/or have them mount a paper icon of St. Raphael on card stock and decorate it.

Lesson 7 “We Pray to God” Tell the children that in addition to praying to God ourselves, we can also ask the saints to pray for us. Have them say the prayer, “St. Raphael, pray for us” while standing in front of an icon of St. Raphael.

Lesson 9 “St. Nicholas Day” Make the connection that St. Nicholas was a bishop like St. Raphael, and both helped others.

Lesson 22 “The Good Stranger” Make the connection that we should help others who might be like “lost sheep” in our communities.

Grade 1 - God Loves Us

Lesson 12 “St. Nicholas, The Gift-Giver” Make the connection that St. Nicholas was a bishop like St. Raphael, and both helped others.

Lesson 19 “Growing in God’s Care” This lesson focuses on Jesus being the Good Shepherd. Make the connection that St. Raphael was a Good Shepherd, too.

Grade 2 - Making Things Right

Lesson 3 “Ripples of Love” By helping others and being kind to them, we’re demonstrating the same characteristics as St. Raphael.

Lesson 4 “What I Want; What God Wants” We need to follow the will of God, the way St. Raphael did, even though it may not always be what we want.                                                                        

Grade 2 - New Life in Jesus

Lesson 5 “I Can Make a Difference” Teach the children that they can make a difference by following the example of St. Raphael.

Lesson 6 “Saying ‘Yes!’ to God” We should always try to do what God wants us to do, the way St. Raphael did.

Grade 3 - We Worship God in Church

Lesson 2 “We Meet for Worship in Church”Make the connection that St. Raphael is known for establishing the first churches in our Archdiocese.

Lesson 19 “We Remember All of the Saints” Teach the children about St. Raphael. Have them say the prayer, “St. Raphael, pray for us.”

Lesson 24 “We Try to Live a Christian Life” Make the connection that St. Raphael lived a Christian life by traveling tirelessly to help those Arab Christians who did not have a church.

Lesson 27 “Men Who Serve in Church” Explain that St. Raphael was a deacon, a priest, and a bishop.

Grade 4 - Jesus the Promise of God

Lesson 4 “God’s Promise to Us: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour” This lesson contains information about the Synaxis of the Archangels which is celebrated on November 8. Mention that St. Raphael was named after the Archangel Raphael.

Lesson 16 “Jesus is Our Teacher” St. Raphael was also a teacher and worked tirelessly to bring people back to Christ.

Lesson 18 “Jesus Helps Us When We Need Him” Make the connection that we should help others who might be like “lost sheep” in our communities.                                                            

Grade 5 - Our Life in the Church 

There are no specific lessons that relate to St. Raphael, but because the focus of this curriculum is on the sacraments and the liturgical life of the church, the teacher can impress upon the students how important it was for St. Raphael to establish churches so that Arab Christians could attend Divine Liturgy and partake of the sacraments.
