2016 Creative Arts Festival Lesson Cross-Reference

Kindergarten- Together with God

Lesson 1 "God's Family" God is our heavenly Father and we are all part of God's family. If we truly love God, we will want to serve Him.

Lesson 9 "St. Nicholas Day" St. Nicholas served God and helped the poor. He took care of many people in God's family.

Lesson 12 "Jesus and His Family" Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple and dedicated Him to God. They showed that God was first in their lives.

Lesson 22 "The Good Stranger" God wants us to love everyone and help those in need.

Grade 1- God Loves Us

Lesson 3 "Caring and Sharing" This lesson focuses on ways that we show respect for other people and their feelings.

Lesson 6 "God Gives Us Our World" God created everything in the world. We should be thankful for everything He has given us and want to serve Him.

Lesson 9 "We Give Thanks to God" Every good thing comes from God. He gives us all these things because He loves us and cares for us.

Lesson 12 "St. Nicholas, The Gift-Giver" We can imitate St. Nicholas and show our love for God by helping others.

Lesson 13 "Mary Says 'Yes!' to God's Gift" Mary served the Lord by agreeing to become the Mother of Jesus.

Lesson 16 "Growing in the Love of Our Family" Mary and Joseph taught Jesus how to pray and worship God. Our families can teach us how to grow closer to God, too.

Lesson 17 "Growing in the Love of God Our Father" Jesus stayed in the Temple because it was His Father's House and He was serving God. However, he also obeyed His parents and left with them because He was keeping the Fifth Commandment.

Lesson 19 "Growing in God's Care" This lesson focuses on Jesus being the Good Shepherd. We should try to be like Jesus and care for others.

Lesson 21 "Loving and Caring Means Sharing" The little boy who gave up his bread and fish was serving the Lord.

Lesson 22 "We Can Share with Each Other" We serve the Lord when we share with others.

Grade 2- Making Things Right

Lesson 1 "Love God; Love Each Other" Family living means giving as well as receiving love.

Lesson 2 "Be Like Jesus" We should follow Jesus' example and show unselfish love to others.

Lesson 3 "Ripples of Love" By helping others and being kind to them, we're serving God.

Lesson 4 "What I Want; What God Wants" We need to follow the will of God, even though it may not always be what we want. One way to serve the Lord is by obeying Him.

Lesson 5 "What is Sin?" When we sin, we're not serving God because we're making a decision not to do what is right.

Grade 2- New Life in Jesus

Lesson 1 "We Belong to God's Family" God is our heavenly Father and we are all part of God's family. If we truly love God, we will want to serve Him.

Lesson 3 "Jesus Teaches Us How to Be Members of His Family" Jesus teaches us how to live our lives the way He wants us to live as good members of His family.

Lesson 5 "I Can Make a Difference" Children will learn that they can help others and make a difference by following Jesus' example.

Lesson 6 "Saying 'Yes!' to God" We can serve the Lord by obeying Him.

Lesson 7 "Jesus Sends His Holy Spirit" Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to help us be strong and follow His teachings.

Grade 3- We Worship God in Church

Lesson 1 "Come, Let Us Worship God" One way we serve God is by joining with others to worship Him.

Lesson 9 "The New Law of Jesus Christ" This lesson introduces the Beatitudes which help us think and behave in a loving way.

Lesson 24 "We Try to Live a Christian Life" After we attend The Divine Liturgy, we must try to live the way Jesus lived and serve others.

Grade 4- Jesus the Promise of God

Lesson 1 "The Bible: An Introduction and the Old Testament" The theme can be introduced in this lesson since it comes from the Old Testament. The Ten Commandments are also mentioned, so the concept of worshipping, obeying, and serving God can also be discussed.

Lesson 3 "God's Promise" We make a choice whether or not to sin.

Lesson 4 "God's Promise to Us: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour" Mary chose to be the Mother of Jesus and accept God's will.

Lesson 7 "Jesus is Presented to the Temple" Mary and Joseph served God by bringing Jesus to the Temple and dedicating Him to God.

Lesson 9 "When Jesus Was Twelve Years Old" Jesus stayed in the Temple because it was His Father's House and He was serving God. However, he also obeyed His parents and left with them because He was keeping the Fifth Commandment.

Lesson 11 "Jesus is Baptized" This lesson mentions house blessings. Having our house blessed teaches us that Church is not just for Sundays, but for every day, beginning in our homes.

Lesson 12 "Jesus is Tempted in the Desert" We are tempted, just like Jesus, and must choose to do the right thing.

Lesson 13 "Jesus Chooses Twelve Disciples" The Disciples made the decision to follow Jesus.

Lesson 18 "Jesus Helps Us When We Need Him" Jesus helps us and wants us to help others, too.

Grade 5- Our Life in the Church

There are no specific lessons that relate to the theme, but because the focus of this curriculum is on the sacraments and the liturgical life of the church, the teacher can impress upon the students the importance of worshipping the one, true God and not having other "gods" in our lives that are more important.
