2017 Creative Arts Festival Lesson Cross-Reference

"My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations." (Mark 11:17)

Kindergarten- Together with God

Lesson 2 "God's House" The church is God's house. As God's family, we meet in the church building to worship Him.

Lesson 3 "The Cross" This lesson mentions ways we reverence the cross.

Lesson 4 "Icons" This lesson discusses the importance of icons and how we show reverence for them.

Lesson 5 "The Sanctuary" The sanctuary is the most holy part of the church where the priest offers our prayers and gifts to God.

Lesson 6 "The Priest and His Helpers" Because the priest is a special member of God's family, we need to treat him with respect.

Lesson 7 "We Pray to God" While we can pray anywhere, the teacher can emphasize that the church is a holy place to pray.

Lesson 14 "The Divine Liturgy" Every Sunday we have a special service in which we give thanks to God.

Lesson 15 "The Church Prays" We pray for everyone and everything during the Divine Liturgy.

Lesson 16 "We Receive Holy Communion" Holy Communion is like being invited to a great banquet in God's house.

Lesson 24 "Jesus Comes to Jerusalem" Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem took place right before He cleansed the Temple. Palm Sunday is an event with which the children may be familiar, so the teacher can make this connection.

Grade 1- God Loves Us

There are no specific lessons that relate to the theme.

Grade 2- New Life in Jesus

Lessons 13-18 enable the students to recognize the various parts of the Divine Liturgy.

Grade 3- New Life in the Church

Lesson 11 "We Share the Good News" Discusses the command, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..."

Lesson 12 "We Pray" While we can pray anywhere, the teacher can emphasize that the church is a holy place to pray.

Lesson 13 "We Worship" Discusses the Divine Liturgy and why it is important.

Lesson 17 "We Meet the Lord in the Church Building" Helps students understand the difference between the Church as a body of the faithful and the church as a building.

Lesson 18 "In the Sanctuary" Conveys the idea of the sanctuary as a holy place and describes what items are found there.

Lesson 19 "We Meet the Lord in the Divine Services" Discusses the various services of the Church.

Lesson 20 "We Meet the Lord in the Gospels" The teacher can explain how we reverence the Gospel Book.

Lesson 21 "We Meet the Lord in Icons" The teacher can explain how we reverence icons.

Lesson 23 "We Meet the Lord in Each Other" The teacher can emphasize how we should treat everyone who comes into our church with love and welcome them.

Grade 3- We Worship God in Church

Lesson 1 "Come, Let Us Worship God" Helps students understand what it means to worship God.

Lesson 2 "We Meet for Worship in Church" Helps students understand the difference between the church as a body of the faithful and the church as a building. It also discusses the important parts of the church.

Lesson 3 "The Sanctuary" Conveys the idea of the sanctuary as a holy place.

Lessons 4-22 Discusses the various parts of the Divine Liturgy in depth.

Grade 4- Jesus the Promise of God

Lesson 7 "Jesus is Presented in the Temple" The teacher can explain the importance of the Temple as a holy place and describe the custom of purchasing animals in the Temple to be offered as gifts, thereby illustrating why Jesus needed to cleanse the Temple.

Lesson 9 "When Jesus was Twelve Years Old" The teacher can emphasize the references to "My Father's house."

Grade 5- Our Life in the Church

The focus of this curriculum is on the sacraments and the liturgical life of the church.

Lesson 23 "We Return Home" References "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..."
