St. Monenna of Ireland
St. Monenna was born in Ireland in the fifth century, and was closely associated with Sts. Patrick and Bridget.
She founded the convent of Sliabh Cuillin with eight virgins and one widow. The widow brought her son, Lugar, with her, and, under the guidance of St. Monenna, he later became a bishop. The sisters were so poor that they lived in abject poverty.
At least one of the sisters was sent to a community that St. Monenna had founded in southwest Scotland for further monastic formation.
Various miraculous powers have been ascribed to St. Monenna. She entered into the Heavenly Kingdom in 518.
