St. Noyala, Virgin Martyr, at Brittany

Commemorated on July 6

St. Noyala is the patron saint of Pontivy, in the diocese of Vennes, in Brittany.

She originally came from England to France with her nurse, crossing the English Channel on a leaf. The chapel of LeBeze, not far from Beignan, marks the spot where she was beheaded by order of the pagan governor Nizon.

Noyala walked from the site of her martyrdom to Pontivy, holding her head in her hands.

During Great Lent, many pilgrims journey to her shrine.
