Ss. Maura and Brigid were two British princesses from Northumbria who were born in the third century.
While making their way to Rome on a pilgrimage, they were murdered by Frankish soldiers in Balagny-sur-Therain.
Their bodies were buried at the spot of their martyrdom, and pilgrims eventually flocked to their shrine.
